About
Oh, where to begin! Glass Sails is Me. It is an extension of my thirst for knowledge, my passion to create, and my drive for success. It is a reflection of my core beliefs, personality, and inspirations. I am a glass artist, 31 years old, and a decade into this voyage called Glass Sails.
My art involves sculpting molten glass into works inspired by nature and fantasy. I use an industry flame torch and borosilicate glass, which is the most durable type of art glass available and melts at 3,000 degrees. That’s hotter than lava! I have a home workshop in the woods of Rhode Island where I spend my time creating, learning, running my business, and petting my dog at breaktime. Given the dangerous nature of the torch and the vapor byproduct of melting glass, I personally designed and constructed my workspace to maximize artistic flow and safety. I sell my glass online and in person at art shows and renaissance fairs. |
My goal as an artist is to create pieces that delight others! I specialize in advanced color techniques to make visually stunning sea creatures, realistic flowers, and functional pieces. Each piece is individually handcrafted. Nothing is made from a mold. While this approach can be time consuming and laborious, I take pride in knowing that each of my collectors gets a truly unique piece of art, whether it be the way a piece shimmers, a few hidden details, or even a personality! When someone asks, “how did you do that?!” I get my own sense of delight in explaining the processes.

How it's made
|
Flameworking is a version of glassblowing that uses a torch to shape glass into art.
|
I spin glass in the fire until it reaches a molten state. All colors are applied in the flame- my work is 100% glass and no paints are used. I love to make pieces that are tactilely satisfying and convey a feeling of wonder. Completed pieces anneal in a kiln overnight to ensure durability. I love opening my kiln in the morning to see the results of last night's work. Check out these videos to see me making a piece!
